Iran increases steel exports

19.09.2018
According to the Iranian state-owned mining and metallurgical holding IMIDRO, in the first five months of this year, according to the local calendar (March 21-August 22, 2018), the leading national metallurgical companies exported 3.107 million tons of steel and semi-finished products, which is 5% higher than the same period a year ago.

The volume of external supplies in the fifth month of the Iranian calendar (July 23 - August 22) amounted to 483.5 thousand tons, which is 24% more than in the same month last year.

At the same time, Khouzestan Steel Company (KSC), the largest steel exporter in the country, delivered 1.11 million tons of products abroad for five months, falling behind by 5% from last year's schedule. KSC sells only semi-finished products to foreign customers.

The current month should show how serious the impact on the Iranian metallurgy industry is being exerted by US sanctions, which came into force on August 5. The US wants to forbid other countries to trade with Iran, and some consumers of Iranian semi-finished products have already announced their intention to seek other suppliers. Nevertheless, Iranian metallurgists continue to offer their products to foreign customers, using bypass schemes and payments in euros or national currencies.
