Weekly review December 11 – 18

Last week, metallurgical enterprises increased purchase prices for ferrous scrap by another UAH 450/mt – up to UAH 7350/mt. Rising prices for raw materials on the world market and improving market conditions are forcing metallurgists to buy more expensive.
 
Supplies to metallurgical plants
Scrap supplies to metallurgical plants increased to 69.7 thousand tons compared to 68.6 thousand tons in the previous week. The demand for scrap was 62.6 thousand tons. The level of meeting the needs of metal plants for scrap last week amounted to 112.4%.

Remains in the ports of Ukraine
Scrap stocks in ports decreased to 0.6 thousand tons compared to 1.2 thousand tons in the previous week.

Dynamics of steel smelting
Steel production for December 10-16 decreased to 408 thousand tons, compared to 428 thousand tons on December 3-9.

Warehouse stocks of scrap at metallurgical enterprises
Remains of scrap in the warehouses of metal plants increased to 136 thousand tons compared to 125 thousand tons in the previous week. Inventories in working days are 15 days, which is slightly higher than the standard value.

Domestic scrap price forecast
In the coming weeks, in the domestic market of Ukraine, factories may go for another increase in purchase prices against the background of rising billet prices and a high probability of continued growth in the cost of scrap metal in foreign markets. The forecasted average price for the next week is UAH 7500/mt.
