Scrap deliveries to steelworks decreased to 63.2 thousand tons compared to 69.7 thousand tons in the previous week. The demand for scrap was 64.7 thousand tons. The level of meeting the needs of metal plants for scrap last week amounted to 98.7%.
Remains in the ports of Ukraine
Scrap stocks in ports rose to 1.2 thousand tons compared to 0.6 thousand tons in the previous week.
Dynamics of steel smelting
Steel production for December 17 – 23 increased to 425 thousand tons, compared to 408 thousand tons on December 10 – 16.
Warehouse stocks of scrap at metallurgical enterprises
Remains of scrap in warehouses of steel plants decreased to 135 thousand tons compared to 136 thousand tons in the previous week. Inventories in working days are 14 days, which is slightly higher than the standard value.
Domestic scrap price forecast
In the coming weeks, on the domestic market of Ukraine, factories may go for another increase in purchase prices against the background of rising billet prices and a high probability of continued increase in the cost of scrap metal in foreign markets, where the price next week may rise to $480-490/t CIF. The forecasted average price next week is UAH 8500/mt.
