Weekly review December 4 – 11

Last week, metallurgical enterprises increased purchase prices for ferrous scrap by UAH 950 /mt at once – up to UAH 6900/mt. Rising prices for raw materials and improving market conditions on world markets are forcing metallurgists to buy more expensive.
 
Supplies to metallurgical plants
Scrap deliveries to steelworks increased to 68.6 thousand tons compared to 64.9 thousand tons in the previous week. The demand for scrap was 66.5 thousand tons. The level of meeting the needs of metal plants for scrap last week amounted to 104.2%.

Remains in the ports of Ukraine
Scrap stocks in ports increased to 1.2 thousand tons. compared to 1,000 tons in the previous week.

Dynamics of steel smelting
Steel production increased to 428 thousand tons, compared to 421 thousand tons in the previous week.

Warehouse stocks of scrap at metallurgical enterprises
Remains of ferrous scrap at the warehouses of steel plants increased to 125 thousand tons compared to 112 thousand tons in the previous week. Inventories in working days are 13 days, which is slightly higher than the standard value.

Domestic scrap price forecast
In the coming weeks, in the domestic market of Ukraine, factories may go for another increase in purchase prices against the background of rising billet prices and a high probability of continued growth in the cost of scrap metal in foreign markets. Forecast average price next week – UAH 7300/mt.
